Straight teeth do not happen by chance. Instead, teeth that are crooked, overlapped, or gapped can be straightened with orthodontic treatment. At Lake Forest Smiles, we offer a revolutionary method to achieve a perfect smile - Invisalign®. Suitable for teens and adults alike, Invisalign is an option to obtain straight teeth without all of the metal, or the inconveniences of traditional braces.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment system that uses custom sets of clear plastic aligners to straighten teeth.

The aligners are almost completely unnoticeable, unlike traditional metal braces that are obvious. Orthodontic aligners are removable; take them out when you eat, drink, perform oral hygiene, or for that special occasion where photos will be taken.

Invisalign aligners need to be worn for at least 20-22 hours per day to achieve the best results. Each set of aligners is switched out every six to eight weeks by visiting our Lake Forest dental office to receive another set.

Is Invisalign Painful?

Most patients tolerate Invisalign well, considering the aligners are smooth and comfortable. The aligners slowly and gently shift your teeth into proper alignment. In some cases, patients report a feeling of pressure when switching to a new set of aligners. This sensation is normal, and it is a sign that your aligners are working to transform your smile. Please contact us directly if you experience continued discomfort or have concerns about your treatment.

Who is a candidate for Invisalign?

Invisalign is for patients of various ages, from teens to adults. While Invisalign is ideal for almost all types of tooth misalignment issues, it may not be enough to correct severe jaw misalignment. The best way to know if clear aligner orthodontics right for you is to schedule a consultation with a certified Invisalign provider in Lake Forest, such as Drs. Douglas Campbell and David Schmidt.

Benefits of Invisalign

Invisalign has the following advantages when compared to traditional metal braces:

  • No metal: The absence of the wires and brackets makes maintaining good oral hygiene simple and easy.
  • Comfortable: The clear aligners have smooth edges. They will not cause irritation to lips, and gums like braces are prone to doing.
  • Faster results: Invisalign has a success rate of straightening teeth in less time than traditional braces. Depending on your case, you may begin seeing results in as little as six months.

How much is Invisalign?

In many cases, Invisalign costs about the same as braces but will depend on the complexity of your case, and the number of aligners you need to achieve results. Dental insurance providers usually cover Invisalign the same way as they would traditional braces. However, contact your provider directly to learn more about your orthodontic coverage benefits. There are various payment options available to you, such as using funds from a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA). An FSA is set up through your employer and allows you to make pre-tax contributions to use later for health and dental-related expenses. An HSA can be set up through your employer or as an individual if you meet these IRS requirements. Other options at Lake Forest Smiles include CareCredit or LendingClub (formerly Springstone Financial), third-party financing institutions that allow you to pay for the cost of treatment while making small, usually interest-free payments monthly. We also offer in-office financing for those that qualify.
